How can we inspire more women to produce music?

19 Dec 2023

We mostly see male figures represented in music production. Women therefore don’t naturally feel welcome into the space.

Hello my inner circle,

Music production is a male dominated space

As I began sharing my audio journey on Instagram, I noticed my audience start with a 50/50 gender split, and gradually skew to 70% male. At first I wondered if I was doing something wrong. Soon I realised that the issue was systemic. We mostly see male figures represented in music production. Women therefore don’t naturally feel welcome into the space.

So I made it a part of my artist mission to find ways to welcome & inspire more women to produce music. Diversity leads to better ideas. So in the studio - it will lead to better music 🔥

Meet Anjana

So when I met Anjana Rajagopalan during my eventful week in Chennai, I knew we had to record a podcast. I finally found a woman in India who introduces herself as a full-time music producer!

Tune into this episode where we learn about her journey, the struggles women face in this industry, and how men can be helpful allies.

While the true issues are cultural and deep-rooted, we hope this conversation inspires at least one girl to take a step towards music production.
